Animals have been an important part of Children’s Fairyland since we opened our doors in 1950. Today, more than 25 domestic animals live in our park—from tiny mice to a pair of frisky donkeys and a Welsh Mountain pony. They’re all on view during public visiting hours. And on weekends, kids can visit our “animal of the day,” learning from an experienced animal handler the best way to hold and pet one of our special friends. (Photo: Nikki and Smokey)

Fairyland offers several other ways to get acquainted with our animals. Once each summer, during our animal weekend, kids can come into the corrals, feed the animals, and learn about their habits and histories. Our Dr. Doolittle program gives field trips a special opportunity to observe and handle the animals. And on animal day at Fairyland summer camp, kids can participate in a variety of animal-related activities, from building a rat maze to grooming or feeding the sheep, alpaca, goats, and pony.

We also offer volunteer opportunities in our animal department, especially for mature teenagers with some experience in caring for animals and a willingness to handle all the chores associated with animal care—even the “yucky” ones! Contact us to learn more.
