Auditions for the Children’s Theater Program are
open to children ages 8 through 10 and are held
once a year in late January. Audition
registration forms are available
online and
through our
office
beginning in November. A nonrefundable fee of
$10 ($15 after the early-January deadline) must
accompany each registration form.
For the
audition, each child must prepare a two-minute
presentation. At least one minute must be an
oral recitation or short memorized poem or
monologue. For the remaining minute, the child
may sing, dance, play a musical instrument, or
continue the oral presentation. A tape/CD player
is available if the child needs musical
accompaniment.
At least one
parent or guardian must accompany each child to
the interview that precedes the audition.
Parents are asked to leave the room during the
audition itself. The five-judge panel includes
our Children’s Theater Program director, a
Fairyland staff member, a former Fairyland
Personality, and a parent. They look for stage
presence, vocal quality, ability to focus, and
desire to commit to the program, among other
attributes.
Performance
auditions are always a little stressful. We try
to remove some of the stress by preceding the
individual auditions with a short period of
theater games and improvisation led by our
Children’s Theatre director. The children let
off some steam by moving around, making noise,
and having fun. As a result, they go into their
auditions feeling more relaxed and confident.
